Rice Krispy Treats

These treats are American to the extreme. You can find them at any school bake sale or birthday party because they are very cheap, quick, and simple to make. Everyone in Germany who has tried them has loved them and surprised that they can easily make them with the ingredients found here. Definitely going to be a new dessert we bring to small gatherings.

She only made a half recipe and had about 30 small squares. The full recipe is here:

3 Tbs of butter
1 bag of large marshmallows (~ 40)
6 cups of Rice Krispies

Melt the butter in a large pot on medium heat.

When the butter is fully melted add the marshmallows and melt.

Make sure to watch and stir the marshmallows so that they do not burn.

Remove from heat and add the Rice Krispies. Mix everything together well. The ratio between marshmallow and cereal should be perfect but you can add or subtract the amount of cereal if you are not happy with it.

In a lined pan (just to make it easier to remove later) pour out the cereal mix and press into the pan.

Let cool for at least 15 minutes before trying to cut into squares.

She loves to eat these right out of the pan while they are still hot.

You can also experiment with this recipe by using chocolate Rice Krispies or other types of cereal. Topping the treats with peanut butter or chocolate is also delicious.
